The call for papers for the conference “Trade and Welfare Effects of European (Dis)Integrationcan”, to be held on 10-11 June in Oslo, Norway, is open until Saturday 20 April.

The conference organisers aim to take stock of the past, address current challenges and invite new contributions on the economics of European integration. A tentative but not exhaustive list of topics is as follows

  • Trade-based estimates of the effects of European integration
  • The impact of disintegration: Taking stock of Brexit
  • Heterogeneous effects of European economic integration across years, sectors, firms, countries and sub-national regions
  • Fragmentation in the Single Market: How integrated is Europe?
  • Global challenges and trade defence: The end of the liberal European order

The conference is organised in the framework of the EUROSHOCKS project, funded by the Research Council of Norway and jointly conducted by the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, Oslo, Norway, the University of Groningen, the London School of Economics and Political Science and RETHINK-GSC partner institute the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.

Submission of papers

The call is open to papers primarily from economics, but also from other disciplines if relevant to the topics. The selection of papers will be made by an organising committee with representatives from the four institutions. The timeline is as follows:

  • 20 April 2024: Deadline for registration and submission of draft papers or extended abstracts (min. 3 pages) to https://nupinytt.wufoo.com/forms/ztki2v00prh5xi/
  • 30 April 2024: Participants will be notified of selected papers. A provisional programme will be distributed. Final papers should be submitted by 31 May.
