From15 to 16 May 2025, researchers from the RETHINK-GSC project gathered at the Gdańsk University of Technology in Poland for a two-day workshop. The event aimed to advance research and discuss the policy implications of current developments in global supply chain.

The event began with an internal consortium meeting, during which participants reviewed progress and discussed ongoing changes in global production networks. This was followed by a full programme of research presentations and discussions.

Two keynote lectures were delivered by invited guests. Professor Andreas Moxnes (Norwegian Business School) spoke on productivity, matchability, and intermediation in production networks. Professor Bart Los (University of Groningen) presented a macro-level analysis of global value chains from a business function perspective.

Throughout the workshop, RETHINK-GSC researchers presented their ongoing work on knowledge flows, services and other intangible inputs in global supply chains. Topics covered included corporate tax policy, knowledge diffusion, university patenting, supplier network reorganisation, and even a discussion on space piracy. Each presentation was followed by comments from a designated discussant, offering constructive feedback and encouraging exchange among participants.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for project members to share research findings, discuss methodological approaches, and reflect on empirical challenges. Several sessions also addressed potential policy relevance, in line with the project’s broader objective of contributing to the understanding and governance of global supply chains.

This event marked a significant milestone in the collaborative efforts of the project, as the RETHINK-GSC initiative finalises its exploration of the role of intangibles and services in global production.
